Bang, Bang, You're Dead Vineyard Theatre Arts
Rarely Done Productions
Price: Free Syracuse Vineyard Church
312 Lakeside Rd.,
Syracuse
Vineyard Theatre Arts and Rarely Done Productions are working together to make a contribution to raising awareness about school violence through the presentation of Bang Bang You’re Dead, a play intended to communicate and allow for discovery about how we've made the world's violence our own - and how we can change it. It's about a theater of life. Paducah, Kentucky. Jonesboro, Arkansas. And Columbine -- once associated with a delicate summer flower, now forever linked with a tragic event at a high school in Littleton, Colorado. In a broken world that's violent, unhealthy, unfair, and beyond the power of anyone to fix, except today's generation, what can we do? How can we help? Bang Bang You’re Dead, with a cast of students from Baker, Liverpool, East Syracuse-Minoa, Henninger, and Manlius Pebble Hill high schools, will target school administrators, educators, parents and students. The shows will be held at "The Furnace" within The Syracuse Vineyard Fellowship building.

Enlightenment Guaranteed Zen Center of Syracuse
Price: $10; patrons $40 Palace Theater
2384 James St.,
Syracuse
The 2000 film Enlightenment Guaranteed, a unique comedy directed by German filmmaker Doris Dorrie, is 105 minutes in length and stars Uwe Ochsenknecht and Gustav-Peter Wohler. As wise and perceptive as it is funny, the film begins in Germany, showing the brothers in their respective households, and then follows them to Tokyo, where they quickly lose their hotel, their credit cards, and each other, and then to a Zen monastery, where a handheld DVD camera gives an accurate portrayal of monastic life and the characters´ transformative experiences. Dorrie is also the director of the 2002 feature Naked and the 1996 film Moments, a Buddhist television documentary made after her husband´s death featuring Sogyal Rimpoche and Thich Nhat Hanh, with music by Van Morrison. Tickets are available in advance at the Palace and at the Zen Center, 266 W. Seneca Turnpike, Syracuse, NY 13207. Members Only: Beatrix Reinhardt Light Work Gallery
Price: Free Robert B. Menschel Media Center
316 Waverly Ave., Syracuse University,
Syracuse
German photographer Beatrix Reinhardt's images in the exhibition take an inside look at members-only clubs worldwide, which Reinhardt views as special entities that provide a community for their members while excluding everyone else. Her images capture the marks left behind by members of the club. They are devoid of people but speak volumes about club members. Reinhardt spends most of her time making phone calls and knocking on doors to gain permission to enter clubs. Since starting the series in 2003, she has traveled to places as far away as Australia, Great Britain and China to capture these images. She is currently photographing in Queens, NY, where membership clubs are plentiful and rich in visuals. Some of these exclusive clubs can require years on a waiting list, and many have membership dues ranging from minimal to tens of thousands of dollars per year. Reinhardt grew up in Jena, Germany, and has lived in the United States on and off for more than 10 years. She completed a residency at Light Work in January 2006 and has also participated in residencies in Australia, India and China. Her photographs have been exhibited internationally, most recently at the Minnesota Center of Photography in Minneapolis, the Silver Eye Center of Photography in Pittsburgh, and Sam Romo in Atlanta. She will also have an exhibition this year in Finland.
