Deadlocked and Loaded: Disarming America

"Deadlocked and Loaded: Disarming America" is a "locked and loaded" conversation through art, showcasing art in all media that addresses the culture of violence, systemic racism, police brutality, and gun issues in the United States—particularly in how it affects women and children.

This exhibition is curated by Karen Gutfreund of Syracuse. She is a partner in Gutfreund Cornett Art, a curatorial partnership that specializes in creating exhibitions in venues around the U.S. ?on themes of "art as activism" to stimulate dialog, ?raise consciousness ?and encourage social change.

Additional work by 12 artists is also on exhibit as part of this exhibition at the Community Folk Art Center Gallery and Point of Contact Gallery.

The Everson began collecting contemporary Japanese ceramics in earnest in the mid 1970s, an experimental period when artists were applying geometric forms and conceptual strategies to traditional materials and forms. The exhibition highlights this under-recognized generation of artists who are now credited with laying the groundwork for today's contemporary ceramic movement in Japan.

Katori Hall's gripping reimagination of events the night before the assassination of the civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. On April 3, 1968, after delivering one of his most memorable speeches, an exhausted Dr. King retires to his room at the Lorraine Motel while a storm rages outside. When a mysterious stranger arrives with some surprising news, King is forced to confront his destiny and his legacy to his people.

The virtual reading will take place on the Redhouse YouTube Channel. You will be emailed a private link the day of the show.
