Painterly Perspectives: The Art of Denise Allen will feature paintings, prints, quilts and dolls by Allen, a renowned American contemporary folk artist and craftswoman. A self-taught artist, Allen has been nationally and internationally recognized as "The High Priestess of Needlework." Her work has been exhibited worldwide, and has also been featured in numerous publications. Many of her works address her African American heritage and are rendered in a unique 19th century folk art style. Allen currently resides in Palatine Bridge, New York, where she operates a general store and folk art gallery on her twenty-three acre farm.

LaToya Ruby Frazier of Pittsburgh, PA attended Edinboro University of Pennsylvania where she received a B.F.A. degree in Photography and Graphic Design. She was the recipient of the Outstanding Achievement in Photography Award from Edinboro University. Her work has received the Patron's Purchase Award from the Erie Art Museum in Erie, PA. Her work has also been exhibited at the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center in Auburn and Light Work Community Darkrooms in Syracuse. Currently, she is pursuing her M.F.A. degree in Art Photography at Syracuse University, where she has been a recipient of the African American Fellowship. In addition to teaching photography at Syracuse University, Frazier has taught at Light Work Community Darkrooms and the Community Folk Art Center.

"The Notion of Family is a collaborative development between my grandmother, mother and I. It reveals the complexity of our relationships and the different roles we play," says Frazier. Frazier's 26 black and white photographs will be accompanied by her award-winning documentary film, A Mother To Hold, which intensely reveals the complex relationship she has with her drug-addicted mother. "My position and role as daughter and filmmaker transcends the stereotypical objective practice in classic documentary, which has continuously undermined the black family experience by avoiding our emotional realm," Frazier says. The film has been screened at the 2006 Black Maria Film Festival in Jersey City, NJ, the Brooklyn Underground Film Festival in New York City, the Black International Film Festival in New York City, and the Women of Color Film Festival in New York City, where she received the Producer's Choice Award.

This exhibition takes an unusual and intimate look at soldiers who recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq or Afghanistan. The series includes a mixture of black-and-white and color photographs that range in style from timeless studio portraits to intimate close-up views of the heads of the soldiers lying on a flat surface. The exhibition features large-format color photographs of the faces of soldiers, evoking a sense of dreaming but also hinting at the transformative experiences of war. Opton has taken the otherwise loaded idea of soldiers and warfare out of a political context and placed it into a silent dialogue from one human being to the next. She says of the images, "We all experience strategic moments when we feel most alive. These are the moments we will always remember, be they transcendent or horrific. Afterall, what are we if not our collection of memories? In making these portraits of soldiers, I simply wanted to look in the face of someone whod seen something unforgettable.

During its 80-year history, Rookwood Pottery's artists formed and painted ceramics in such diverse styles as Victorian, Art Nouveau, Arts and Crafts and Art Deco. Sara Sax (1870-1949) was one of Rookwood's premier artists, painting vases, tiles and jars for this celebrated company from 1896 through 1931. This exhibition of Sax's work is generously on loan to the Everson from a private Massachusetts collection.

Only an Artist features approximately 80 porcelains by Adelaide Alsop Robineau (1865-1929). These exquisite works are drawn largely from the unparalleled collection of her ceramics held by the Everson Museum of Art, with additional key works from other public and private collections. Beginning with Robineau's early experiments dating from 1904 to 1910, Only an Artist offers a selection of both the matte and crystalline glazes Robineau developed during this crucial period. A unique focus of Only an Artist is the representation of almost thirty works from the last three years of Robineau's life.

Only an Artist: Adelaide Alsop Robineau, American Studio Potter is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue containing three essays: by the exhibition's guest curator, Thomas Piché Jr.; noted Art Pottery scholar Ellen Paul Denker; and Syracuse University Professor Elizabeth Fowler.

Dedicated to the art of film and edited by Pedro Cuperman, gallery curator, and Syracuse University film professor and SIFVF director Owen Shapiro, the issue integrated a series of critical discussions by distinguished filmmakers and film theorists with the set of art works by Colo, Crewdson, Pfaff, Skoglund and Van Erve.

Karen Savoca and Pete Heitzman first met on a stage and each immediately recognized the other as the perfect musical partner. Electrifying, unique, and always uplifting, these improvisational performers possess "the fearlessness of a high wire act working without a net."

Karen Savoca puts her heart into a song the way a great actor throws herself into a role. Her supple, soulful alto charms with an infinite range of expression. She can even sing several notes at once, her own brand of throat singing she calls vocal hydroplaning. Savoca is a gifted songwriter, drawing you into her world with humor and compassion, telling her stories with such grace and ease, you feel as though you've been invited to her table for supper. Though she composes and records on a variety of instruments, Savoca opts for the primal combination of voice and drum in live performance, and her groove is wide and satisfying.

Sara Sax (1870-1949) was one of Rookwood's premier artists, painting vases, tiles and jars for this celebrated company from 1896 through 1931. This exhibition of Sax's work is generously on loan to the Everson from a private Massachusetts collection.

Only an Artist features approximately 80 porcelains by Adelaide Alsop Robineau (1865-1929). These exquisite works are drawn largely from the unparalleled collection of her ceramics held by the Everson Museum of Art, with additional key works from other public and private collections. Beginning with Robineau's early experiments dating from 1904 to 1910, Only an Artist offers a selection of both the matte and crystalline glazes Robineau developed during this crucial period. A unique focus of Only an Artist is the representation of almost thirty works from the last three years of Robineau's life.

It was one of the most bitterly disputed public monuments in American history. Only 21 when her design for the Washington, D.C. Vietnam Veterans Memorial was chosen in 1981, Maya Lin has never shied away from controversy.

Her starkly simple slash of polished black granite inscribed with the 57,661 names of those who died in Vietnam was viciously attacked as "dishonorable," "a scar," and "a black hole," but Lin remained committed to her vision, and the Memorial, a moving tribute to sacrifice and quiet heroism, was built as planned. Since then, Lin has completed a succession of eloquent, startlingly original monuments and sculptures that confront vital American social issues.

Broadcast live from Redhouse, TK99 Soundcheck, a Central New York music radio show hosted by Dave Frisina, is the longest running local music show in Central New York. Since 1979, Frisina has maintained that the best rock can be found right in your own backyard. This month, Soundcheck will rock the airwaves with the roots, soul funk and zydeco music of Los Blancos.

Known for its eclectic mix of genres and energetic live performances, Los Blancos has been compared to Little Feat, The Allman Brothers, The Radiators, Taj Mahal, The Band, and The Grateful Dead. But their own style is nothing less than original. The four-piece act consists of Colin Aberdeen (vocals and guitar), Mark Nanni (keyboards), Mark Tiffault (drums) and Steven T. Winston (bass). Their four albums, "For Sale By Owner," "Special Blend," "The Thirst of A Thousand Camels," and "Still Thirsty" have won local and national awards, including a 2002 SAMMY for "Special Blend" (Best CD any style), a 2001 Jim Beam Benefiting Emerging Artists in Music Grant and a 1999 SAMMY for Best Blues Band, Best Guitarist and Best Vocalist.

This exhibition takes an unusual and intimate look at soldiers who recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq or Afghanistan. The series includes a mixture of black-and-white and color photographs that range in style from timeless studio portraits to intimate close-up views of the heads of the soldiers lying on a flat surface. The exhibition features large-format color photographs of the faces of soldiers, evoking a sense of dreaming but also hinting at the transformative experiences of war. Opton has taken the otherwise loaded idea of soldiers and warfare out of a political context and placed it into a silent dialogue from one human being to the next. She says of the images, "We all experience strategic moments when we feel most alive. These are the moments we will always remember, be they transcendent or horrific. Afterall, what are we if not our collection of memories? In making these portraits of soldiers, I simply wanted to look in the face of someone whod seen something unforgettable.

"Eye on Cinema" is part of the 2006 Syracuse International Film and Video Festival (SIFVF) programming and was also the theme of a 1997 issue of the "Point of Contact" verbal and visual arts journal. Dedicated to the art of film and edited by Pedro Cuperman, gallery curator, and Syracuse University film professor and SIFVF director Owen Shapiro, the issue integrated a series of critical discussions by distinguished filmmakers and film theorists with the set of art works by Colo, Crewdson, Pfaff, Skoglund and Van Erve.

Mexico High School Chorale

The Mexico High School Chorale was chosen through an audition process to be part of the National Youth Choir under the direction of Maestro Robert Bass (current conductor of the Robert Shaw Chorale). Additionally, they received the highest adjudication score and won the honor of being chosen to perform as the featured choir on the concert, to be held at Carnegie Hall.

The group has been working very hard to raise the funds for this trip, but have fallen far short of their goal. The Mexico School District has denied further funding and other Oswego County sources have not been able to make up the difference. These students still need to raise approximately $15,000 in order to not lose this experience of a lifetime.

Having been made aware of this situation, LeMoyne College will host a benefit concert for the group to help defray the cost of the trip. If you can't attend the concert, but would like to help the chorus get to Carnegie Hall, donations will be gratefully accepted. Called "a group of true explorers," and "equally remarkable whether playing Mozart, Berg or Donatoni," acclaimed French chamber music ensemble Accroche Note is renowned throughout Europe for its brilliant performances and imaginative programs. Led by the husband-wife team of clarinetist Armand Angster and soprano Françoise Kubler, the ensemble has worked with some of the world's most respected composers, including Pierre Boulez, Henri Dutilleux and Franco Donatoni. Performing regularly at leading festivals in Europe, Accroche Note has recently broadened its reach, performing in Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Japan, in addition to regular engagements in Stockholm, Paris and at the international festival Musica in Strasbourg. The ensemble's concerts at SU present a rare opportunity to hear the group on this side of the Atlantic.

The free concerts will include works by France's most prominent living composers, including Boulez, Dutilleux, Pascal Dusapin, Ivan Fedele, Betsy Jolas and Tristan Murail, and music by American composers Harold Meltzer, Steven Stucky, Anna Weesner and VPA faculty members Nicolas Scherzinger and Andrew Waggoner. Accroche Note will also be joined by American ensemble Open End, founded by another husband-wife team (both of whom are VPA faculty), composer/violinist Waggoner and cellist Caroline Stinson.

A major feature of both concerts will be improvisation from the groups, both separately and combined. The two ensembles share a commitment to bringing improvisation into the contemporary concert scene and these concerts will provide both with the chance to adapt on the fly to each other's varying styles and approaches.

Painterly Perspectives: The Art of Denise Allen will feature paintings, prints, quilts and dolls by Allen, a renowned American contemporary folk artist and craftswoman. A self-taught artist, Allen has been nationally and internationally recognized as "The High Priestess of Needlework." Her work has been exhibited worldwide, and has also been featured in numerous publications. Many of her works address her African American heritage and are rendered in a unique 19th century folk art style. Allen currently resides in Palatine Bridge, New York, where she operates a general store and folk art gallery on her twenty-three acre farm.

LaToya Ruby Frazier of Pittsburgh, PA attended Edinboro University of Pennsylvania where she received a B.F.A. degree in Photography and Graphic Design. She was the recipient of the Outstanding Achievement in Photography Award from Edinboro University. Her work has received the Patron's Purchase Award from the Erie Art Museum in Erie, PA. Her work has also been exhibited at the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center in Auburn and Light Work Community Darkrooms in Syracuse. Currently, she is pursuing her M.F.A. degree in Art Photography at Syracuse University, where she has been a recipient of the African American Fellowship. In addition to teaching photography at Syracuse University, Frazier has taught at Light Work Community Darkrooms and the Community Folk Art Center.

"The Notion of Family is a collaborative development between my grandmother, mother and I. It reveals the complexity of our relationships and the different roles we play," says Frazier. Frazier's 26 black and white photographs will be accompanied by her award-winning documentary film, A Mother To Hold, which intensely reveals the complex relationship she has with her drug-addicted mother. "My position and role as daughter and filmmaker transcends the stereotypical objective practice in classic documentary, which has continuously undermined the black family experience by avoiding our emotional realm," Frazier says. The film has been screened at the 2006 Black Maria Film Festival in Jersey City, NJ, the Brooklyn Underground Film Festival in New York City, the Black International Film Festival in New York City, and the Women of Color Film Festival in New York City, where she received the Producer's Choice Award.

Three strippers seeking thrills encounter a young couple in the desert. After dispatching the boyfriend, they take the girl hostage and begin scheming on a crippled old man living with his two sons in the desert, reputedly hiding a tidy sum of cash. They become house guests of the old man and try and seduce the sons in an attempt to locate the money, not realizing that the old man has a few sinister intentions of his own.

This movie is recommended for viewers 17 years of age and older.

A professional artist, art appraiser and former art critic for the Christian Science Monitor from 1977 to 1990, Ted Wolff has written two books on Morris Graves and a biography on Joyce Treiman. He previously lectured at the Maine Coast Artist in Rockport and Portland Museum of Art. Wolfe studied drawing with John Wilde (b. 1919) at the University of Wisconsin before embarking on a career as an art critic and writer. While he still makes art, he is best known for the writings and essays he has contributed to many catalogs.

Called "a group of true explorers," and "equally remarkable whether playing Mozart, Berg or Donatoni," acclaimed French chamber music ensemble Accroche Note is renowned throughout Europe for its brilliant performances and imaginative programs. Led by the husband-wife team of clarinetist Armand Angster and soprano Françoise Kubler, the ensemble has worked with some of the world's most respected composers, including Pierre Boulez, Henri Dutilleux and Franco Donatoni. Performing regularly at leading festivals in Europe, Accroche Note has recently broadened its reach, performing in Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Japan, in addition to regular engagements in Stockholm, Paris and at the international festival Musica in Strasbourg. The ensemble's concerts at SU present a rare opportunity to hear the group on this side of the Atlantic.

The free concerts will include works by France's most prominent living composers, including Boulez, Dutilleux, Pascal Dusapin, Ivan Fedele, Betsy Jolas and Tristan Murail, and music by American composers Harold Meltzer, Steven Stucky, Anna Weesner and VPA faculty members Nicolas Scherzinger and Andrew Waggoner. Accroche Note will also be joined by American ensemble Open End, founded by another husband-wife team (both of whom are VPA faculty), composer/violinist Waggoner and cellist Caroline Stinson.

A major feature of both concerts will be improvisation from the groups, both separately and combined. The two ensembles share a commitment to bringing improvisation into the contemporary concert scene and these concerts will provide both with the chance to adapt on the fly to each other's varying styles and approaches.

Painterly Perspectives: The Art of Denise Allen will feature paintings, prints, quilts and dolls by Allen, a renowned American contemporary folk artist and craftswoman. A self-taught artist, Allen has been nationally and internationally recognized as "The High Priestess of Needlework." Her work has been exhibited worldwide, and has also been featured in numerous publications. Many of her works address her African American heritage and are rendered in a unique 19th century folk art style. Allen currently resides in Palatine Bridge, New York, where she operates a general store and folk art gallery on her twenty-three acre farm.

LaToya Ruby Frazier of Pittsburgh, PA attended Edinboro University of Pennsylvania where she received a B.F.A. degree in Photography and Graphic Design. She was the recipient of the Outstanding Achievement in Photography Award from Edinboro University. Her work has received the Patron's Purchase Award from the Erie Art Museum in Erie, PA. Her work has also been exhibited at the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center in Auburn and Light Work Community Darkrooms in Syracuse. Currently, she is pursuing her M.F.A. degree in Art Photography at Syracuse University, where she has been a recipient of the African American Fellowship. In addition to teaching photography at Syracuse University, Frazier has taught at Light Work Community Darkrooms and the Community Folk Art Center.

"The Notion of Family is a collaborative development between my grandmother, mother and I. It reveals the complexity of our relationships and the different roles we play," says Frazier. Frazier's 26 black and white photographs will be accompanied by her award-winning documentary film, A Mother To Hold, which intensely reveals the complex relationship she has with her drug-addicted mother. "My position and role as daughter and filmmaker transcends the stereotypical objective practice in classic documentary, which has continuously undermined the black family experience by avoiding our emotional realm," Frazier says. The film has been screened at the 2006 Black Maria Film Festival in Jersey City, NJ, the Brooklyn Underground Film Festival in New York City, the Black International Film Festival in New York City, and the Women of Color Film Festival in New York City, where she received the Producer's Choice Award.

This exhibition takes an unusual and intimate look at soldiers who recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq or Afghanistan. The series includes a mixture of black-and-white and color photographs that range in style from timeless studio portraits to intimate close-up views of the heads of the soldiers lying on a flat surface. The exhibition features large-format color photographs of the faces of soldiers, evoking a sense of dreaming but also hinting at the transformative experiences of war. Opton has taken the otherwise loaded idea of soldiers and warfare out of a political context and placed it into a silent dialogue from one human being to the next. She says of the images, "We all experience strategic moments when we feel most alive. These are the moments we will always remember, be they transcendent or horrific. Afterall, what are we if not our collection of memories? In making these portraits of soldiers, I simply wanted to look in the face of someone whod seen something unforgettable.

Only an Artist features approximately 80 porcelains by Adelaide Alsop Robineau (1865-1929). These exquisite works are drawn largely from the unparalleled collection of her ceramics held by the Everson Museum of Art, with additional key works from other public and private collections. Beginning with Robineau's early experiments dating from 1904 to 1910, Only an Artist offers a selection of both the matte and crystalline glazes Robineau developed during this crucial period. A unique focus of Only an Artist is the representation of almost thirty works from the last three years of Robineau's life.

Only an Artist: Adelaide Alsop Robineau, American Studio Potter is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue containing three essays: by the exhibition's guest curator, Thomas Piché Jr.; noted Art Pottery scholar Ellen Paul Denker; and Syracuse University Professor Elizabeth Fowler.

Veteran television producer, writer and director George Schlatter, whose credits include Rowan & Martin's Laugh In, Speak Up America and Real People, will speak about his career.

With the edgy and politically incorrect Laugh In, Schlatter changed the face of television and forged the model for The Smothers Brothers, Saturday Night Live and Mad TV. Over the years, he has received honors and awards including 25 Emmy nominations and 5 Emmys, Image Awards, Golden Globes, Television Critics Awards, the International Radio & Television "Man of the Year" Award, Directors Guild Award, Producers Guild Man of The Year Award and many others.

Laugh In was not Schlatter's only contribution to American popular culture. His list of credits spans the golden years of live television. In 1979, he experimented with reality television when he produced the series Real People, and in 1980 he was executive producer of Speak Up America.

In 2003 he appeared in the television special, Tracey Ullman in the Trailer Tales and has appeared as a panelist and expert in shows including The 100 Most Memorable TV Moments, Inside TV Land: Primetime Politics, TV Land Convention Special and Bitter Jester.

"Eye on Cinema" is part of the 2006 Syracuse International Film and Video Festival (SIFVF) programming and was also the theme of a 1997 issue of the "Point of Contact" verbal and visual arts journal. Dedicated to the art of film and edited by Pedro Cuperman, gallery curator, and Syracuse University film professor and SIFVF director Owen Shapiro, the issue integrated a series of critical discussions by distinguished filmmakers and film theorists with the set of art works by Colo, Crewdson, Pfaff, Skoglund and Van Erve.

"My position and role as daughter and filmmaker transcends the stereotypical objective practice in classic documentary, which has continuously undermined the black family experience by avoiding our emotional realm," Frazier says. The film has been screened at the 2006 Black Maria Film Festival in Jersey City, NJ, the Brooklyn Underground Film Festival in New York City, the Black International Film Festival in New York City, and the Women of Color Film Festival in New York City, where she received the Producer's Choice Award. The screening will be followed by a talk with the artist.

Painterly Perspectives: The Art of Denise Allen will feature paintings, prints, quilts and dolls by Allen, a renowned American contemporary folk artist and craftswoman. A self-taught artist, Allen has been nationally and internationally recognized as "The High Priestess of Needlework." Her work has been exhibited worldwide, and has also been featured in numerous publications. Many of her works address her African American heritage and are rendered in a unique 19th century folk art style. Allen currently resides in Palatine Bridge, New York, where she operates a general store and folk art gallery on her twenty-three acre farm.

LaToya Ruby Frazier of Pittsburgh, PA attended Edinboro University of Pennsylvania where she received a B.F.A. degree in Photography and Graphic Design. She was the recipient of the Outstanding Achievement in Photography Award from Edinboro University. Her work has received the Patron's Purchase Award from the Erie Art Museum in Erie, PA. Her work has also been exhibited at the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center in Auburn and Light Work Community Darkrooms in Syracuse. Currently, she is pursuing her M.F.A. degree in Art Photography at Syracuse University, where she has been a recipient of the African American Fellowship. In addition to teaching photography at Syracuse University, Frazier has taught at Light Work Community Darkrooms and the Community Folk Art Center.

"The Notion of Family is a collaborative development between my grandmother, mother and I. It reveals the complexity of our relationships and the different roles we play," says Frazier. Frazier's 26 black and white photographs will be accompanied by her award-winning documentary film, A Mother To Hold, which intensely reveals the complex relationship she has with her drug-addicted mother. This exhibition takes an unusual and intimate look at soldiers who recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq or Afghanistan. The series includes a mixture of black-and-white and color photographs that range in style from timeless studio portraits to intimate close-up views of the heads of the soldiers lying on a flat surface. The exhibition features large-format color photographs of the faces of soldiers, evoking a sense of dreaming but also hinting at the transformative experiences of war. Opton has taken the otherwise loaded idea of soldiers and warfare out of a political context and placed it into a silent dialogue from one human being to the next. She says of the images, "We all experience strategic moments when we feel most alive. These are the moments we will always remember, be they transcendent or horrific. Afterall, what are we if not our collection of memories? In making these portraits of soldiers, I simply wanted to look in the face of someone whod seen something unforgettable.

During its 80-year history, Rookwood Pottery's artists formed and painted ceramics in such diverse styles as Victorian, Art Nouveau, Arts and Crafts and Art Deco. Sara Sax (1870-1949) was one of Rookwood's premier artists, painting vases, tiles and jars for this celebrated company from 1896 through 1931. This exhibition of Sax's work is generously on loan to the Everson from a private Massachusetts collection.

Only an Artist features approximately 80 porcelains by Adelaide Alsop Robineau (1865-1929). These exquisite works are drawn largely from the unparalleled collection of her ceramics held by the Everson Museum of Art, with additional key works from other public and private collections. Beginning with Robineau's early experiments dating from 1904 to 1910, Only an Artist offers a selection of both the matte and crystalline glazes Robineau developed during this crucial period. A unique focus of Only an Artist is the representation of almost thirty works from the last three years of Robineau's life.

For years Carl Jones and Beverly Smith have appeared on the traditional music scene, at festivals, on record, at contests and dances, in various bands and formations, playing just about anything with strings and tossing in vocal harmonies wherever there was the opportunity. In their recordings they bring those years of experience to the art of the duet songs and tunes, old and new, done simply and with love.

Carl Jones toured with Norman and Nancy Blake as part of the Rising Fawn String Ensemble, playing mandolin, banjo, and fiddle. He often plays as a duo with James Bryan, and is sometimes found pickin' as part of a trio with Bruce Green and Don Pedi. Carl has been an instructor at Pinewoods, Port Townsend's Festival of American Fiddle Tunes, Mars Hill Old Time Week, and the Swannanoa Gathering. His songs have been recorded by the Nashville Bluegrass Band, Rickie Simpkins, and others.

One of the most respected guitar players in old time music today, Beverly Smith is also in demand as a singer, fiddler, and dance caller. She has made numerous recordings, backing up fiddlers Bruce Molsky, Rafe Stefanini, Tara Nevins and Brad Leftwich, vocalizing with Irish musicians Mick Moloney and John Doyle, and also singing with bluegrass great Laurie Lewis. She has taught and played at many camps and folk festivals and, in addition to her collaboration with Carl, also plays with old time band The Rockinghams.

Their latest CD, "Somewhere Over Yonder", was named after a song that Jones wrote for the album. The recording took place at Jones¹s farmhouse, where they piled up mattresses to soundproof the walls. The album dips deep into a well of traditional music they have made their own9gospel numbers, duets from the golden age of country music, mountain songs9as well as a few originals.

Stefan Senders has been playing old-time banjo for more than 20-years, and he has taught and performed at a variety of music camps and festivals including the Port Townsend Festival of American Fiddle Tunes, Ashokan, Wheatlands, and Pinewoods. He has had the good fortune to have performed with such players as the Chicken Chokers, the Wildcats, UpSouth, Rafe Stefannini, Mike Seeger, John Hoffmann and the Canote Brothers. He learned much of his playing with North Carolina fiddle legend, Tommy Jarrell, and he is an able teacher of a variety of playing styles, both old and new.

The Salmon River Boys

For over 50 years, the Pulaski-based Salmon River Boys has performed old time country music the way it was played before the invention of the electric guitar. Founded by two dairy farmers, Hugh Hilton and Rex Teachout, the group played house parties in addition to round the square dances throughout the area beginning in the early 1950s. Over 80 songs round out the Salmon River Boys' repertoire. The instrumentation includes tenor banjo, five-string banjo, guitar and fiddle as well as vocals.
