Joe Guerriero: Waiting for Normal: Cuba and the United States
ArtRage Gallery

Price: Free, but reservations required
ArtRage Gallery
505 Hawley Ave., Syracuse

People feel an undeniable attraction to Cuba after visiting even once. It's mostly about the people— their warmth and friendliness, their art, music and culture. However, it is almost impossible to photograph or create art in Cuba without capturing the effects of the embargo. Photographer Joe Guerriero's photography and film work does just that, reflecting more than 20 years of spending time with the Cuban people and experiencing first hand the effects of the United States' continuing embargo of the island. He shows how the embargo affects the lives not only of Cubans but of those Cuban-Americans who still have relatives in Cuba.

Everson Museum of Art

Everson Museum of Art
401 Harrison St., Syracuse

This decision, implemented by Museum Director Fernando Carter, was the first of many made by directors that ultimately defined the Everson's collection as it exists today. This exhibition examines over one hundred years of the Museum's collecting priorities, from the Museum's earliest acquisitions in 1911 to work acquired in 2019

NOTE: Face masks required of all visitors, staff, and volunteers at all times. Fridays and Saturdays 10:00 am-12:00 pm are reserved for Everson members and high-risk individuals.

It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play

Hunter Foster, director

Price: Streaming: $20 presale (before 12/9 at 7:00 pm), $25 regular

Frank Capra's Oscar-nominated film comes to life in an imaginative retelling of this Holiday classic. The story of George Bailey's journey to redemption is brought to life on stage in the form of a "radio play" – which was one of the most popular forms of entertainment in the 1940s.

The timing of this beloved tale couldn't be more perfect as our five actors transform us to the world of Bedford Falls, NY, where we follow George Bailey as he contemplates ending his life on Christmas Eve. This brings on the intervention of his guardian angel, Clarence, who shows George how different life would be for his wife Mary, his children, and his community.

A Legacy of Firsts: The Everson Collects
Everson Museum of Art

Everson Museum of Art
401 Harrison St., Syracuse

In 1911, the Syracuse Museum of Fine Arts (known today as the Everson) made history as the first museum in the country to declare that it would focus on collecting works made by American artists.

It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play
Redhouse
Hunter Foster, director

Price: Streaming: $20 presale (before 12/9 at 7:00 pm), $25 regular
Online

Syracuse Stage
Ricky Pak, director

Price: $30 (48-hour access)
Online

Heartwarming stories and the comforts of home have long been part of our holiday traditions. Add to them some favorite holiday songs, charming instrumentals, and lively dance and you have Home for the Holidays, a celebration that captures the spirit of the holidays. The stories — all true — come from some friends and neighbors in Central New York, from performers who have appeared in past holiday productions, and from students in the Department of Drama at Syracuse University. The music, songs, and dance come courtesy of talented cast, including some familiar faces from holidays past. They are all intertwined in one delightful and singular production you can enjoy by your very own fireside. Home for the Holidays for a heartwarming holiday at home.

Musical direction by Brian Cimmet; choreography by Joshua Keen.
