He co-owns Halo Tattoo in Syracuse, New York. He is driven to create and proclaim as is commanded "both for glory and for beauty". The gallery is open by appointment. The Overcoming the Spectacle film program continues with a screening of Jean-Luc Godard's controversial film Le Gai Savoir (1969). Professor Owen Shapiro will introduce the film and lead the discussion afterward. Le Gai Savoir is an exploration of learning, discourse and the path to revolution, using images of the student revolt in Paris, the Vietnam War, and other images of the turbulent 1960s as a backdrop. The film was originally rejected by French television before moving to the cinema, where it was subsequently banned by the French government. Godard remains one of cinema's most innovative and influential filmmakers. According to biographer Colin MacCabe, "From Hollywood to the Third World, from the mainstream to the Avant-Garde, Godard's name is perhaps the only one that occurs wherever cinema is discussed or produced." Owen Shapiro is a Senior Professor of Film at Syracuse University, the founder of the BFA and MFA film programs, and the creator of the Syracuse International Film Festival. Shapiro has made over 30 films and a dozen videos on a wide range of subjects, all exploring the boundaries between documentary, narrative, and experimental genres.

Red House Arts Center presents "Phantoms," a New Media art exhibition curated by New York City based gallerist and curator Stephan Stoayanov. We can attribute the present art and pop-cult fascination with the paranormal and vampires with our ongoing human interest in metamorphosis. The mystery of the unknown will always be something that we obsess about. Our brain creates illusions of words and phrases. The nine artists included in the exhibition "Phantoms" create illusions through their artwork, which evoke the paranormal and mystical on both personal and universal level. "Phantoms" features the work of Phil Argent (United Kingdom), Heather Bennett (United States), Amelie Chabannes (France), Lieven de Boeck (Belgium), Cliff Evans (Australia), Ellen Harvey (United States), Dominik Lejman (Poland), Marie Maillard (France), and Trine Lise Nedreaas (Norway).

Red House presents the inaugural production of Autopista del Sur: a play about the dangerous combination of desire and the imagination. Presented in Spanish with English supertitles, Ella entertains and provokes with its suspense and emotions. This is the U.S. premiere of this work by acclaimed playwright Susana Torres Molina. Ella follows two men in a steam sauna where they confront the fact that they are sharing the same mistress. Mixing a naturalistic dialogue with dramatic inflections of energy, Ella, meaning "She" in Spanish, earned Molina a first prize by the National Foundation of the Arts in Agentina. Co-founded by Rodrigo Hernandez and Artistic Director Milton Loayza, Autopista del Sur proposes stagings that explore theatricality as a source of discovery and pleasure. This inaugural production introduces Autopista Del Sur's mission of bringing Latin American plays to Central New York while seeking partnerships with local artists, communities, and universities.

Jack Smith: Flaming Creatures Kurt Kren: Mama und Papa (1964), Leda und der Schwan (1964) (These films may be inappropriate for minors.) "Overcoming the Spectacle: A Cinema of Pure Means" explores the role of cinema as a medium for political transformation by way of an examination of the medium itself and the act of what it means to "watch" a film. The films included in this series all critique the spectacle/spectator relation inherent in the structure of cinema and attempt to imagine new relationships between the medium and the viewer. Taking its conceptual grounding from what Giorgio Agamben refers to as the cinema of "Pure Means," this series will look specifically at cinematic strategies that refute fabricated meanings, thoughts and desires. It is through the work of the cinema that the cinema, too, has to be destroyed. "Overcoming the Spectacle: A Cinema of Pure Means" is curated by Lawrence Kumpf.
