Wunderbar 201 S. West St., Syracuse
Marie and the Nutcracker Prince is a wild retelling of E.T.A. Hoffmann's classic Nutcracker story, set within a dreamscape Russia on the brink of revolution. Through contemporary movement, vocal and instrumental music, soundscape, and light, we are transported into Marie's world, and the boundary between imagination and reality blends irreversibly while political, familial, and mental unrest grows to a climax for the young woman and her country. Audience members experience multiple points of view as the story tumbles towards conclusion, all the while discovering hidden scenes and clues through their exploration of the world. As a touring piece, our site-adaptive show transforms from venue to venue, and gives each audience the chance to experience not only the story, but the venue, in unique and unexpected ways. Marie & The Nutcracker Prince is an immersive theatre production. This means you are fully immersed in the world of the story. For this production, you will be moving throughout the venue largely using the stairs when needed. There is an elevator for those who require it. We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. This production is family friendly and is appropriate for many ages. All children should be accompanied by an adult. We emphasize, however, that the content is not aimed at children and at times could be considered frightening by young viewers.
